Project MAHEPA was showcased at the MEA’19 Conference in Seattle. Prof. Josef Kallo of H2Fly presented the progress on the Hy4 hydrogen-fuel-cell-hybrid demonstrator, and Tine Tomažič of Pipistrel presented progress on the ICE-hybrid design, as well as design of powertrain components (courtesy of Compact Dynamics) and batteries (Pipistrel). The main theme of the conference was scalability to larger airplanes, and the prospect of MAHEPA was well received in that regard. The unique modularity of the powertrain system concept was identified from the attendance for having high potential for distributed electric propulsion for airplanes of 19 seats and larger – up to 70 seats.
