New components were developed and successfully tested in MAHEPA that improve the fuel cell system as a whole. These innovations aim to increase the fuel cell system safety and reliability towards commercial airline grade standards. This was partly achieved through new developments or the replacement of existing components.
To optimize the integration and maintenance of the fuel cell system, structural and positioning changes were made to the system. An additional task was to improve the performance and increase the redundancy of the fuel cell system by investigating the possibilities of a dual fuel cell line in the lab. A dual fuel cell line concept could have advantages in larger aircraft. For the Hy4 aircraft a single fuel cell line has more advantages in terms of integration space, costs and weight.
